More and more companies have entered online backup field in these two or three years. They figure that online backup has a good future.

Yes, online backup has a good future indeed, 10 years later for common users. Why?

1. The speed of internet. 95% computer users in the world use less than 2M. Just think about it: we used 32K speed in 1997. 12 years has passed, we improved it into 2M. 60 times increased. Then how about the speed in 2020? Maybe 120M, 200M, 300M? Only this kind of speed can meet the requirements of online backup. Just maybe.

2. The size of the files turns bigger and bigger. Is there anybody who can remember the size of computer games in 1998? Usually no more than 200M, even the best game “StarCraft” only has 250M. But now just check out “WOW”, the files become 8G, 40 times increased. In 1998, we can put many files into a CD with no more than 700M space, and now we need Blue-Ray, a CD with more than 40G space. 57 times increased.

3. The size of hard disk turns bigger as well. In 1997, the size of disk only has 512M, and now 250G for laptop, 500G for desktop, this configuration is very common. 970 times increased. And usually, the computer home users use two or more hard drives in one computer.

According to these data, we can see that local backup is much more useful than online backup in coming 10 years. And the backup software is far from our satisfaction: we need real time backup. Or, we need real time correct backup. The real time correct backup means we do backup immediately after the file changed, and if the file changed in a wrong way, the backup will not take any action. We don’t see any kind of backup software that can be so intelligent yet.

The manufacturers of backup software fool their customers. The local backup is still in development, they are eager to develop online backup. Please walk step by step since we’d like to backup manually instead of using those so called backup software.
